I'm moving what remains of my to do list over here and adding stuff to it.

to do for links roundup:

name Category X
consider adding some of the recent tosh articles to rape jokes section
subdivide sections that have gotten too big
reorganize abortion section with more useful divisions
figure out where Diversity Awareness Quizzes go

Also, anyone other than me think it would be a good idea/possible to have some kind of symbol or system to differentiate like rigorous academic research from blog posts and suchlike? I'm not sure if that's a thing that would be useful for people other than me. I categorize a lot. CCipher 20:32, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

First thing that comes to mind: at Wikipedia they use some colorful chits that fit inline text, for various purposes. Here's a small selection of them. If you like, I could whip up something like that. Maybe like this but without the text? Or here's another; it should still look clearly like an "info" symbol when shrunk to 16px (found here, where there's more). This one might be good since it doesn't have any particular obvious meaning but draws attention. And blog posts can be noticed as such by not having a chit. Blame MarkovBaines 19:26, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
That sounds good to me! I like the green one with the arrow. :) CCipher 05:29, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Ambox emblem arrow Here's how it works then. {{arrow}} or {{Arrow}} makes it appear. If it's still too large, you can change the size by editing template:arrow; it's currently set to 16px. Blame MarkovBaines 15:36, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry to be all like DO MORE WORK!!! but could you also make there be a red one of some kind? I would like to use it for things that are unusually likely to be triggering, if that makes sense. But I'll get to putting some of those arrowy ones in now CCipher 16:56, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Ambox warning pn No problem! {{warn}} Blame MarkovBaines 17:49, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! *excited* CCipher 17:54, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Should we restrict use of the Ambox emblem arrow chit to papers that are like studies with experiments and stuff? I dunno. So far I've been putting it on things that are academic papers. CCipher 18:09, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Dunno. Got an example of one you're unsure about? Blame MarkovBaines 19:07, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
Like this one? It's a conference paper apparently that discusses shifting male gender roles, but it isn't a study exactly. CCipher 19:38, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
It is more like a research paper than a blog post (i.e. I recognize it as "doing academia"). Maybe expand to say the arrow "means that the resource is a scientific study or other academic paper." This would include for instance that paper by Guttmacher and W.H.O., neither of which are academia, but the paper is science. But this is only my opinion; if you have reason to do it differently, then do. Blame MarkovBaines 20:28, July 27, 2012 (UTC)
The only reason I can think of to do it differently is because there are a lot of academic papers, so we may end up with more marked than not marked, which seems weird to me. I'm still not sure. CCipher 19:02, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

I'm trying to figure out what to do with axes of oppression other than gender. Because intersectionality, it seems weird and difficult to separate them from the feminism page, but because extremely long pages are hard to navigate, maybe we should be splitting off things. We definitely need an antiracism page or section, one on trans* issues, and one on LGB issues. (Oh, and of course I'm going to be on the Wiki! What else am I going to do with the vast swaths of time I'd otherwise be spending on Pharyngula? :P) CCipher 19:02, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

I'm just about too tired to think. But. Maybe this should be a social justice link roundup, and then we break off subsections like reproductive health, economics, privilege, strategy, into their own pages with a "main article" link under the old subsection header. Think "issue X as it affects everyone who's affected by it" rather than "group Y's issues". (Glad to hear it.) Blame MarkovBaines 21:52, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
That sounds like a large project but doable and would probably be a good way to go about things.CCipher 22:24, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
Don't think of it as a project! ;) That's a recipe for exhaustion. The page is not too big yet. When it gets unwieldy, break off just one chunk at a time. Blame MarkovBaines 22:46, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
Example: http://pharyngula.wikia.com/wiki/Economics?action=history Now, I can easily go undo that, if'n you like. (For the edit summary, I just grabbed all the usernames of those who've worked on the page generally, except myself, since I know for sure I didn't contribute to any of that section. For CC-BY-SA it is better to credit too many authors than too few.) Blame MarkovBaines 23:15, July 28, 2012 (UTC)
I feel like that works but should have a different title, since "Economics" generally I'd expect to be a sort of different article? Maybe "Social Justice and Economics" or something? Or maybe it would work fine and we just need to add more kinds of links. (Like, refutations of libertarianism and things) CCipher 18:47, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
My thinking is that a more general naming encourages lots of interesting things to happen. Like refutations of libertarianism; I didn't think of that. If some interesting things turn out to be unhelpful, we can cross or burn those bridges when we come to them? (Everything on this wiki is sort of implicitly "subject X in relation to Pharyngulan interests", I think; we won't and don't want to reinvent wikipedia:economics.) Blame MarkovBaines 19:04, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
But if you decide otherwise, Special:MovePage/Economics. "It's a wiki"; everything can be rearranged at any time now or later. Blame MarkovBaines 19:11, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
Maybe what I did now will work. :) (Okay yes my brain MUST HAVE CATEGORIES.) CCipher 19:32, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Apparently, "Rich text editing has been disabled because the page contains complex code." CCipher 20:23, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Hm. I don't know what to do about that. I don't use the rich text editor so I don't know what breaks it. Did it happen just now after a particular edit? Blame MarkovBaines 20:41, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
Or in other words, when's the last time it was working? Blame MarkovBaines 20:44, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
I found it - I did it when I added the nowiki tags. I got rid of them - works now. CCipher 20:57, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
I tried a different way of saying {{arrow}}. Does that break the rich text editor too? If so, go ahead and undo it. Blame MarkovBaines 21:09, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
Still works! // Oh damn, I did a massive revert... thanks for fixing it. I seriously looked at that notification and reminded myself about it like seven times. CCipher 21:13, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

... Are all the links to FTB disappearing? Is my Blocksite doing that?! Is that even possible? Gah... If so, I guess I'd better refrain from editing the page til the habit breaks and I can take ftb out of my blocksite.CCipher 21:33, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I got it. It's probably the interaction of BlockSite with Wikia's rich text editor. You could either disable that in special:preferences, or, go to BlockSite's preferences in Firefox's about:addons -> Extensions, and uncheck "Enable link removal". If you don't see this preference, it may be new; I can confirm it's there in In the current version of BlockSite, 0.7.1.1. Blame MarkovBaines 22:43, July 29, 2012 (UTC)
Done. Thanks. I hope that's the only problem I end up having with it - I sent the Blocksite password to one of my friends and then deleted the message, in hopes of preventing myself from taking FTB out. (Yes, it turns out that such measures are necessary :P) CCipher 01:36, July 30, 2012 (UTC)

The "complex code" deal is happening again. It looks like it changed here: http://pharyngula.wikia.com/wiki/Social_justice_link_roundup?diff=prev&oldid=8398 but I don't understand what the brackets and exclamation point and such mean there. Is there any way to achieve the same effect without disabling rich-text editing?CCipher (talk) 02:45, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

It was an html comment, which just stores text so that it's invisible unless you're looking at the html source (or wikitext, around here). Basically a note to myself to consider integrating that link somehow, though I probably won't. I forgot about the rich text editor. Probably there's no way to get around it, so I've just removed the comment and moved the link here instead. Oh, and if I forget and do that again, you can just cut the comment and paste it here on the talk page, without the brackets. Blame MarkovBaines 03:13, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

LGBT love stories

The purpose of this section is explained here. The stories do not have to be about marriage. They do not have to be consciously political at all. Ideally we will have some stories which are not consciously political. If we get some personal accounts from Pharyngula commenters I may come up with something that automatically organizes them (functionally like the cookbook).
